Launched in 2017, the inaugural Festival saw over 400 competitors from some of the World’s finest choirs come to Cardiff during Easter 2018. Competitors included The KZN Midlands Youth Choir from South Africa, Ukrainian Children Chorus “Pearls of Odessa” and Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Côr Glanaethwy from Wales to name a few. The Festival began with an impromptu performance in Cardiff Castle and culminated in a feast of musical treats in and around one of the UK’s top cultural attractions – the Wales Millennium Centre (Read about the 2018 Festival here).
A fantastic opportunity for any choir, International Choral Festival Wales offers a fully-packed schedule of choral events for its visiting choirs including workshops with leading choral conductors and collaborators such as Brit Award and Double-Classic Brit Award-winning Welsh composer, Paul Mealor and Irish choral conductor and international adjudicator, Bernie Sherlock; concerts with acclaimed artists; informal performances at the Welsh Capital’s most popular landmarks (Cardiff Castle, National Assembly of Wales, Mermaid Quay); and last but not least, a chance to compete for the Sir Karl Jenkins Trophy at the Wales Millennium Centre.
Commenting on the Festival, Artistic Director Eilir Owen Griffiths said “The inaugural year was a great success. As a Festival that was created by choristers for choristers, our aim was to provide a first-class Festival full of choral experiences to remember and that’s exactly what we did. Everyone left Cardiff feeling richer than what they did when they arrived. Friendships were formed, songs were sung and history was made. He added: “Planning for the 2019 is underway and I cannot wait to share all the exciting developments with you. It will be even bigger than last year.”
Applications are already coming in for the 2019 Festival, which will return to the Wales Millennium Centre over the Easter weekend [19 April – 21 April 2019].
